FCSC Tasks Staff on Going Extra Mile in Service Delivery
"Demonstrate greater commitment to your duties by providing timely, efficient and quality services to civil servants, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and members of the public." Dahiru Mohammed Lawal, Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary.
..... "Describes effective service delivery as a fundamental responsibility that must not be compromised.
.... Says "the success of any organisation depends largely on the quality of services it provides."
The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has urged its staff to go beyond routine responsibilities by prioritising professionalism, efficiency and prompt service delivery to strengthen public confidence in government institutions.
The Commission gave the charge on Tuesday during its celebration of the 2026 Customer Service Week at its headquarters in Abuja, with the theme, “Extra Mile.”
The Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Dahiru Mohammed Lawal, who declared the event open, urged employees to demonstrate greater commitment to their duties by providing timely, efficient and quality services to civil servants, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and members of the public.
Lawal described effective service delivery as a fundamental responsibility that must not be compromised, stressing that the success of any organisation depends largely on the quality of services it provides.
He called on staff to discharge their responsibilities with passion, integrity and discipline, noting that going the extra mile was essential to improving service standards and fulfilling the Commission’s mandate.
According to him, employees must remain committed to excellence even when their efforts do not attract immediate recognition or reward, as every positive interaction contributes to public trust and the institution’s reputation.
He urged staff to ensure that every assignment was handled efficiently and professionally, emphasising that quality service should be a consistent practice rather than an occasional effort.
Also speaking, the team leader, Dr Ben Olofu, said Customer Service Week provided an opportunity to recognise and appreciate employees who consistently exceeded expectations in serving customers.
Olofu explained that the theme, “Extra Mile,” underscored the need for public servants to anticipate the needs of service users, provide additional guidance, resolve complaints promptly and demonstrate a willingness to go beyond their routine duties.
He stressed that achieving service excellence required teamwork, innovation and collaboration across departments, adding that customer service was not the exclusive responsibility of frontline officers but a collective obligation of every employee.
According to him, effective collaboration among departments would help resolve issues more quickly and ensure that service users had a positive experience when dealing with the Commission.
The celebration also highlighted the importance of accuracy and efficiency in the Commission’s core responsibilities, particularly in handling appointments, promotions and disciplinary matters.
It noted that getting such decisions right the first time could significantly improve service delivery, reduce avoidable delays and strengthen confidence in the Commission.
The Commission, in a statement issued and signed by its Head of Press and Public Relations Department, Ibraheem Zakariyya, reiterated its commitment to building a service culture anchored on professionalism, responsiveness, accountability and stakeholder satisfaction.
It urged employees to make going the extra mile a daily professional standard, rather than limiting the commitment to the annual celebration, as it continues to pursue its mandate of promoting an efficient, effective and merit-driven Federal Civil Service.
