COVID-19 PALLIATIVES: URHOBOWOOD INTERNATIONAL DOLES OUT PALLIATIVES

“The duty of helping our people at this trying time, should not be left alone for the government as it has become obvious through studies that government alone cannot provide the support that is needed for the alleviation of the suffering of our people”..... Chief Joseph Udusan Orekereke.

The UrhoboWood International Initiative, is a Pan Urhobo Cultural Organization aimed at promoting, projecting, protecting and developing the Urhobo Arts and Culture globally.

In view of the rampaging and devastating effects of the Coronavirus pandemic that is ravaging countries across the globe with Nigeria and Nigerians not spared, there is a call from all stakeholders to join hands together to seek ways of providing palliatives to the citizenry following the lockdown imposed by states of the federation.

UrhoboWood, in pursuit of its mandate which includes protection of all Urhobos, has engaged in providing palliatives such as food items and where necessary, financial tokens as assistance to those in need.

According to Ambassador (Dr.) Joseph Udusan Orekereke, DcA, Ph.D, Lord Mayor of Urhobowood, this has brought about the need to establish the UrhoboWood COVID-19 Palliative Support Initiative that is aimed at providing Palliative Support to Urhobos in particular and Nigerians in General to alleviate their pains and sufferings during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking further on the need to provide these palliatives to the people, he said; “the duty of helping our people at this trying time, should not be left alone for the government as it has become obvious through studies that government alone cannot provide the support that is needed for the alleviation of the suffering of our people”.

“Through this program, we hope to provide hand sanitizers, face masks, food materials as well as financial support to youths, women and all those that have been actively involved in the promotion of Urhobo art and culture”, Chief Orekereke stated.

On how the organization plans to raise funding for the programme, Dr. Orekereke disclosed that, “We hope to fund this program through donations from well meaning individuals, Urhobos sons and daughters (home and abroad), Government agencies, Captains of Industries, elected and Appointed, Civil Society Groups, Social Clubs, Schools, Hotels e.t.c.

On mode of receipt of cash and other donations for the programme, he pointed out that cash donations should be sent to the organization’s account;
Banker: ECO BANK PLC
ACCOUNT NAME: URHOBOWOOD INTERNATIONAL VENTURE
ACCOUNT NUMBER: 4942037741

“Equally, donations of food materials can be made by contacting these phone numbers via phone call, SMS or WhatsApp: +2347037589037 or +2348105350976”.

He noted that, “whatever is provided or donated towards the actualization of this programme, no matter how great or would be greatly appreciated”.

He therefore appealed to all Urhobo sons and daughters to see this programme as a time to stand by their own, in this time of great need by the people and as such, support this noble and timely cause.
