RESTRUCTURING: Ashaju Taiwo, Leader of Nigerian Voters Alliance Hails Northern Elders.
The National Coordinator of the Nigerian Voters Alliance, Ashaju Tunde Taiwo has commended the declaration of the Northern Elders to support the restructuring of the Nigerian federation.
The decision by the North to support restructuring was arrived at by an expanded meeting of the Leaders of Northern Nigeria from 17 groups including the Arewa Consultative Forum and the Northern Elders Forum in Kaduna.
The groups under the aegis of the Northern Peoples Summit issued a 12- point communique after the crucial meeting which reads in part: "The Northern Peoples Summit convened on the 7th and 8th April, 2021 at Arewa House, Kaduna to discuss the issues bedeviling the North and the Nigerian State. These include security, restructuring, economy, politics and the survival of the Nigerian State."
After two days' intensive discussion, the summit among other issues resolved as follows:
"The North believes that restructuring the country is now a vital necessity for survival as one united entity."
Taiwo described this landmark declaration as timely, auspicious and capable of stemming the dangerous and growing threats to the corporate existence of Nigeria.
The Nigerian Voters Alliance leader saluted northern leaders for their courage and patriotism.
He emphasized that the restructuring of Nigeria's lopsided federal structure will allow the component states to maximize their potentials, leading to a more prosperous, secure, economically viable, peaceful and united Nigeria.
He appealed to agitators for self-determination to give peace a chance and cooperate with the northern elders and the authorities to achieve a successful restructuring, which essentially is the basis of their growing agitations.
He called for sincerity in the implementation of the restructuring exercise by the major stakeholders, including the Presidency, the National and State Houses of Assembly.
