Six (6) female footballers of an Edo state football team have been reportedly abducted by suspected kidnappers who have made a demand for #30 million naira as ransom for their release.
The six female footballers were said to have been abducted on Friday while returning from a football match in the neighbouring Delta State at Urhonigbe, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State that shares a common blundering at about 7 pm.
According to sources, the six females footballers, alongside their colleagues were returning from a football competition in Owa-Alero, Ika North-East council area of Delta State when they were whisked away by gunmen.
Sources in Asaba revealed that the abductors have established contacts and are demanding a N5 million ransom for each for the victims.
“They went to Owa-Alero to play a football match. On their way back, they were kidnapped at the Urhonigbe area, the boundary between Delta and Edo states.
“Six of them are in the den of the kidnappers. The matter has been reported to the Urhonigbe police station." The sources disclosed.
When contacted for clarification, ASP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, Delta State Command stated that the incident happened in neighbouring Edo state and will not be in the best position to speak on the unfortunate incident.
