NILDS DG ADVOCATES NATIONAL FOOD SUFFICIENCY THROUGH PREVENTION OF POST HARVEST LOSS. ..... Conferred With ESN's Chairman Board of Honorary Fellow

.... Clamours for the need to seriously address the challenges bedeviling the value chains in agricultural practices towards improving food productivity, supply, affordability and availability. 


The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, National Assembly, Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, has remained unrelenting in carrying out the mandate of advocacy of the Institute at all levels. 

This time around he was in the University of Abuja to add the Institute's perspectives to the theme of the 53rd Annual Conference of the Entomological Society of Nigeria which is: "INSECTS: Implication For Public Health, Agriculture and Environmental Sustainability."

The occasion was the 53rd Annual Conference of the Entomological Society of Nigeria, ESN where he was there in double capacities as Chairman and recipient of ESN award.

Professor Sulaiman described the Theme of the Conference as thematic, apt and relevant to the National aspirations for food sufficiency and security.

He therefore clamoured for the need to seriously address the challenges bedeviling the value chains in agricultural practices towards improving food productivity, supply, affordability and availability. 

Appreciating the organisers on behalf of the Leadership of the National Assembly, for the honour done him, he underscored the impact of Climate Change and the ecosystem in the control of insects leading to Post Harvest loss and Poor Food Storage System as inimical to Public health. 

The Former Minister of National Planning who was honoured ten years ago by the  ESN as a Member of the Honorary Fellow, thanked the organisers for finding him worthy of higher responsibility and honour


The Acting Vice Chancellor, University of Abuja, Professor Aisha Maikudi, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Phillips Afaha challenged the Entomological Society of Nigeria, ESN to deepen Scholarship and research in the Study of Insect.

Professor Afaha who described the Director General of NILDS as a great ambassador of the University of Abuja, portraying the institution in positive light Nationally and internationally, congratulated the ESN on their 53rd Annual Conference. 

Highlight of the ceremony was the Investiture of the Director General NILDS, Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman as Chairman Board of Council of Fellows. 

While receiving the award he promised support for the ESN towards taking it to greater and thereafter proceeded to Launch the Society's Journal with handsome donation.
