Shun Corruption, Work For The Country.... Clergy Advice Civil Servants

"I pray that none of you Civil servants will be ashamed to stand before God. I don't want to be ashamed. That He will not say to you 'depart from me I never know you, you workers of iniquity'. 

..... "Bring us out of this pit we are in by doing good work, by being productive, efficient and incorruptible, let files not get lost, let people not pay before they get services done. 

Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has prayed for God's intervention in the transformation of the Civil Service 

Mrs Didi WaIson-Jack, apart from vigorously pursuing policies and strategies to reform the Federal Civil Service, on Sunday prayed to God Almighty to intervene for transformation to take root in the Service.

HoCSF said the prayers during the 2025 Civil Service Christian Thanksgiving at the Family Worship Centre, Wuye, Abuja. 

Mrs Walson-Jack who specially gave thanks to God Almighty for how far He has led the Federal Civil Service, said, "As we fellowship today, we humbly request that the Church lifts the Nigerian Civil Service in prayer, asking that the transformation we earnestly pursue may take root and flourish, and that we, as stewards of national progress, may rise to fulfil our role in achieving the country’s development goals.

"As we gather in God’s presence to offer Him praise, we acknowledge His unwavering faithfulness, sustaining grace, and divine guidance in our lives and service to our great nation, Nigeria." 

On the call to Thanksgiving, the HCSF added; "Today, we obey the divine injunction to give thanks in all circumstances by lifting our voices for the privilege to serve our nation, the strength to fulfil our duties, and the impact of our collective labour in advancing Nigeria’s development. We are here today because God has been our Builder and our Keeper."

She noted that the Federal Civil Service has witnessed God’s Hands through policy implementations, reforms, and the daily contributions of dedicated men and women who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the government machinery running over the years. 

The HCSF also thanked God for the gift of creativity, innovation, and reforms, which have improved service delivery efficiency, driven transformative progress, and driven the much-needed transformation in the Service. 

She used the occasion to express gratitude to God for giving the service a supportive President, whose confidence in Civil Service reform efforts has provided it with policy backing, strategic direction, and encouragement. 

Thanking development partners for their support and dedication, she said; "We do not take the opportunities for collaboration, exchange, and encouragement from distant lands and generous hearts for granted.

"These partnerships remind us that our efforts are recognised beyond our borders and that the reform of Nigeria’s Civil Service is a shared mission. Every achievement in the Civil Service is by His grace, and today, we return all glory to God for His blessings upon the Nigerian Civil Service."

On the ongoing civil service week, Mrs. Walson-Jack said; "As we go into the rest of the Civil Service Week activities, may this moment of worship anchor us. May the Lord bless the work of our hands, renew our strength, and guide our steps.

 

"May we serve with hearts full of compassion, minds sharpened by wisdom, and spirits anchored in truth." 

Concluding her speech, she said; "To God alone be all the glory for how far He has brought us. Let us leave this place with hearts full of praise, renewed commitment, and a more profound sense of purpose in our service to Nigeria."

On her part, the Senior Pastor of Family Worship Centre, Abuja, Pastor Sarah Omakwu, urged the Civil servants to shun corruption in the process of carrying out their duties. 

She also urged them to do their best to improve the situation in the country. 

Pastor Omakwu said; "We thank God for the work you are doing, my only charge to you is to be more and do more. To be more by training, and to do more by doing your work...., be honest, be sincere. Do your work and rescue Nigeria. 

"Bring us out of this pit we are in by doing good work, by being productive, efficient and incorruptible, let files not get lost, let people not pay before they get services done. 

"Remember that the Bible says we are all going to stand before the judgement seat of Christ and we will give account of everything we have done in the flesh. 

"I pray that none of you Civil servants will be ashamed to stand before God. I don't want to be ashamed. That He will not say to you 'depart from me I never know you, you workers of iniquity'. 

"Rather, He will say, 'Well done that good and faithful servant'. That is my prayer for you, that you so work for God and don't work for man. 

"Be honest, be sincere, and serve our country with all your heart and with integrity." she stated. 

Delivering the message of the service, entitled; "Benefit of Gratitude and Thanksgiving", Pastor Yakubu Adamu Yola (Pastor of Church Growth), highlighted the advantages of thanksgiving. 

Scriptures he quoted in the Holy Bible during the service included Numbers 14:1-4, Numbers 14:27-32, Romans 4:18-20, Phillipian 4:6-7, Proverbs 17:22, 1st Timothy 6:6, John 6:9, and Jeremiah 30:19.

At the thanksgiving service were Permanent Secretaries from various Ministries, Directors, other top government officials and family members.
