Nigeria and Poland have moved to deepen bilateral relations with fresh commitments to cooperation in security, trade, technology, innovation and economic development following a high-level meeting in Abuja between the two countries.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, hosted Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister, Krzysztof Gawkowski, alongside Poland’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Michal Cygan, and other officials at the Ministry of Interior headquarters, where both sides pledged to strengthen diplomatic, economic and institutional ties.

Speaking during the meeting, Tunji-Ojo described the visit as a major step toward building a stronger and more strategic partnership between Nigeria and Poland.

“This visit isn't just another diplomatic meeting,” the minister said. “It's building the foundation for a sustainable and mutually beneficial relationship between Nigeria and Poland.”

According to him, both countries possess unique strengths that can be leveraged to tackle common challenges and unlock new opportunities for growth and development.

Discussions at the meeting centred on cooperation in border management, internal security systems, cybersecurity, technology transfer, innovation and institutional capacity building.

The minister expressed Nigeria’s readiness to explore technical partnerships and attract investments from Poland, particularly in the areas of security and digital technology.

Tunji-Ojo also welcomed ongoing diplomatic engagements between both nations, revealing plans for an official visit to Poland aimed at expanding discussions with Polish government agencies and private sector players in security and internal affairs.

He reiterated Nigeria’s openness to foreign investment, highlighting recent economic reforms introduced by the Federal Government, including exchange rate unification, efforts to curb inflation and the removal of fuel subsidies.

“We look forward to formalising our cooperation through official agreements and building practical solutions that will benefit both countries,” he added.

Earlier, Gawkowski commended the warm reception accorded his delegation and praised the growing momentum in relations between Nigeria and Poland.

He described Nigeria as a country with enormous economic, demographic and technological potential, stressing that Poland sees Nigeria as a strategic long-term partner.

The Polish Deputy Prime Minister said his country was ready to contribute expertise in innovation, digitalisation, infrastructure development and advanced technologies.

He also extended a formal invitation to the Nigerian Interior Minister to visit Poland, expressing confidence that sustained engagement would create new opportunities for collaboration between government institutions and private sector stakeholders in both countries.

Gawkowski further acknowledged ongoing reforms and improvements in Nigeria’s internal security architecture, noting that the sector presents strong prospects for future cooperation.

The meeting is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between both countries while advancing their shared commitment to building a productive and enduring partnership.
