NISO Management Receive Presidential Adviser On Power ..... Talks on Reforms To Cut Outages, Boost Reliability

The Nigerian Independent System Operator, NISO, has reaffirmed its commitment to grid stability and operational efficiency after hosting the Special Adviser to the President on Power, Mr. Lanre Babalola, at its corporate headquarters on Friday, May 29, 2026.

The visiting Presidential Adviser was received by the management of NISO, led by its Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed.

Discussions focused on strategic talks around national grid operations, ongoing power sector reforms, and the Federal Government’s support for NISO’s mandate.

Babalola, speaking on behalf of the Presidency, stressed prudent resource management, stronger operational discipline, and sustained action to improve grid performance. He urged NISO to reduce system disturbances that have long plagued the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, NESI.

“NISO’s role is critical to a stable, resilient power system,” Babalola said. “With better planning, transparency and discipline, we can deliver the reliability Nigerians expect.”

Deliberations centred on strengthening grid reliability, improving operational efficiency, deepening transparency, and ensuring overall system stability. Both parties agreed on closer coordination as reforms advance under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Engr. Mohammed while addressing Babalola and his delegation, reiterated NISO’s mandate to manage the national grid independently and professionally, in line with the Electricity Act 2023 that unbundled system operation from transmission.

The meeting signals closer FG oversight of grid operations as Nigeria pushes to end load shedding and attract investment into power infrastructure.
