President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa (Rtd) as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, citing his extensive experience and strategic contributions to Nigeria’s security architecture.

The appointment, conveyed in a circular signed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, underscores the administration’s resolve to strengthen internal security coordination, enhance intelligence-driven operations, and deepen inter-agency collaboration in tackling emerging threats nationwide.

A highly decorated retired officer, Fadewa brings over three decades of military and intelligence experience, spanning national security strategy, counter-terrorism operations, intelligence fusion, and international security diplomacy. His career has been marked by operational excellence, strategic foresight, and institutional leadership in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

Fadewa previously served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser from 2015 to 2021, where he played a central role in shaping Nigeria’s modern intelligence coordination framework. During his tenure, he spearheaded the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre, an integrated multi-agency platform that brought together key security bodies, including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces, to strengthen national threat assessment and response coordination.

Following his retirement, he served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, where he continued to contribute to policy development and national security reform. He is also the author of the widely acclaimed monograph, Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which outlines practical approaches to enhancing civil-security cooperation.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Fadewa’s appointment would bolster ongoing efforts to achieve a safer and more secure Nigeria through improved intelligence integration, coordinated homeland security initiatives, and proactive risk management.

He further urged the retired General to deploy his wealth of experience and strategic insight in advancing national security objectives in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
