NSITF Takes Workplace Safety Campaign Nationwide

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has stepped up its nationwide campaign to strengthen occupational safety and health standards, with stakeholder engagements underway in Bauchi, Jos and Kaduna.

The three-day programme, which began on Tuesday and ends Thursday, is being organised by the Fund’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department under its “Programme on Safety Regulations, Policies and Standards.”

The initiative is designed to equip employers with practical knowledge and skills to prevent workplace accidents, manage occupational risks and build stronger safety cultures within their organisations.

In a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Affairs, Alexandra Mede, the NSITF said the programme would deepen employers’ understanding of occupational safety and health frameworks while exposing them to emerging challenges, technologies and innovations in workplace safety.

The Fund said participants were also being trained on the development and implementation of effective safety policies, incident investigation, safety leadership and risk management.

The campaign has recorded strong participation, with attendance exceeding the 85 employers invited to each of the ongoing sessions in Bauchi, Jos and Kaduna.

This followed the impressive turnout recorded during the first phase of the campaign in Owerri, Port Harcourt and Lagos between August 11 and 14, where more than 100 employers participated at each location.

According to the NSITF, the growing participation underscores increasing awareness among employers of the importance of workplace safety and the need to move occupational safety and health beyond regulatory compliance.

The Fund said it was seeking to make workplace safety a central component of business strategy and national development, particularly amid concerns over workplace incidents and compensation claims in some sectors.

It stressed that stronger safety leadership, effective risk management and proper incident investigation were critical to reducing workplace accidents and protecting employees.

The Bauchi, Jos and Kaduna engagements are expected to conclude on Thursday, with the NSITF indicating that the stakeholder outreach would be extended to other parts of the country.

The Fund said the broader campaign would promote wider adoption of occupational safety standards and contribute to creating safer, healthier and more productive workplaces nationwide.
