PICTURE SPEAK: APC GRAND RALLY IN NORTH CENTRAL REGION LAFIA

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, on Saturday, 10 October 2026 in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, led governors from the North Central region to rally support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu/ Vice President Kashim Shettima's re-election at the APC Grand Rally.

During the Grand Rally, the SGF formally proposed President Tinubu as the sole candidate of the North-Central political gathering for the 2027 Presidential election to the Governors from the North-Central extraction and key political stakeholders, which they all agreed to the affirmative to support the re-election of President Tinubu.

Akume called for continuity in the country’s leadership that President Tinubu should be allowed to complete the eight-year tenure envisaged under the power-rotation understanding reached by Political Leaders in Kaduna in 1999. He maintained that the arrangement was intended to promote political balance and understanding between the two major regions of the country.

He described President Tinubu as a leader who combines ambitious vision with decisive action, citing the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project and the proposed Badagry-Sokoto Highway as examples of major infrastructure initiatives that, according to him, could unlock economic opportunities, improve connectivity and stimulate development across different parts of the country.

Akume also highlighted the President’s approach to fiscal federalism, noting that increased allocations to States and Local Governments had strengthened the capacity of subnational administrations to address developmental needs. He argued that the administration’s decisions in the financial sector and its commitment to major infrastructure projects reflected a determination to pursue long-term economic transformation.

The SGF further pointed to developments in the education sector, including the establishment of additional Universities and the introduction of student loan arrangements, as areas in which the administration sought to widen access to tertiary education.

He said such interventions were important to ensuring that young Nigerians had opportunities to pursue higher education irrespective of their family backgrounds.

In his address, the National Chairman of APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe assured the First Lady of the Federal Republic of  Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu of the unflinching support of the North-Central Region towards the re-election of President Tinubu, saying he has  done what no previous President had done for the North-Central Region.

He called on the people of the North-Central Region to demonstrate their support for President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging them to sustain their commitment to the party from the national  to the grassroot levels.

At the rally, the six Governors from the North-Central zone took turns to affirm their unwavering commitment to ensuring the re-elction of President Tinubu and Shettima as well as ensuring that all the APC candidates are elected from top to bottom in the forthcoming general elections.
