The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has stepped up efforts to protect the nation’s power grid, convening a high-level stakeholder meeting to address operational irregularities along the Ikorodu–Sagamu 132kV transmission corridor.

Speaking at the meeting held Tuesday in Ikeja West, Lagos, NISO Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, described the engagement as a decisive intervention to tackle “offtake indiscipline, metering irregularities, and energy accountability gaps” identified on the line.

The meeting brought together key players in the electricity value chain, including regulators, transmission and distribution companies, generation firms, and eligible customers.

Engr. Mohammed warned that the anomalies “go beyond isolated operational breaches” and pose significant risks to grid stability and market integrity. He said the session was aimed at presenting investigation findings, aligning stakeholders on the scale of the issues, and reinforcing compliance with existing regulations such as the Electricity Act 2023, Grid Code, and Market Rules.

“This engagement is not merely a routine meeting. It is a decisive intervention aimed at protecting the integrity of the national grid and restoring confidence in Nigeria’s electricity market framework,” he said.

He stressed that stakeholders must commit to transparency, strict regulatory compliance, and immediate corrective actions to restore discipline on the network.

Highlighting the broader implications, Mohammed noted that the sustainability of the power sector hinges on adherence to rules. “Where discipline and compliance are compromised, the entire system is placed at risk,” he added.

The meeting is part of NISO’s ongoing push to strengthen governance, improve accountability, and ensure reliable electricity supply nationwide.
